Zigong Series: Salt Factory Workers No. 2
Taken in April, 1938, Salt Factory Workers records the working conditions of salt miners in Zigong. Turning the waterwheels was such exhaustive labour that they sweated profusely even in the coldest winter. Therefore they generally worked without clothing, and because sweat often entered their eyes, they kept sweat-cloths at hand to brush it away. When strangers arrived, they would use them to cover their private parts.
