of deep round form with straight edges, the earthenware body with a red slip, decorated with a small yellow and ochre calligraphic band in the centre and around the rim, the exterior plain 

Condition

Breaks with associated restoration, including overpainting, minor infill visible on exterior, some light abrasion to external rim, as viewed.

A bowl with a similarly unusual colour scheme, comprising a red clay slip background and coloured calligraphic decoration is in the al-Sabah collection in Kuwait (Watson 2004, p.212, no. Cat.Ga.8, inv. no. LNS 908C).
