Catalogue Note
The model was modelled by Johann Gottlieb Kirchner in January 1733 as mentionned in the work report : ' In the month of January 1733, I made ready the following.... a tiger in the same size [ie, life size]'. There seems to have been some confusion about this model, which is actually of a sitting lioness and not a tiger, for further information, see. Samuel Wittwer, The Gallery of Meissen Animals, Munich, 2006, p. 313. The worn-down moulds were then renewed by Karl Stein in March 1924. 3 original models of the sitting lioness are recorded today, 2 in the Dresden Porcelain Collection, and 1 in the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum, Schneider Collection, Lustheim.
