- ROSEWOOD WALNUT AMBOYNA BEECH EBONY BOX
- 76.5cm. high, 60cm. wide, 38.5cm.; 2ft. 6¼in., 1ft.11½in., 1ft. 3¼in.
with rectangular tops in various woods, two inlaid with chequer boards and the smallest fitted with a drawer and shaped undertier, on turned legs, together with fifty two stained beech black and white counters
Condition
Generally these tables are in good condition. Three tables have shrinkage cracks to the tops. Some old marks and scratches. Ready to place.

Catalogue Note
A set of tables of very similar design to the offered lot, reputedly supplied by Gillows to the Senhouse family of Lancashire around 1810, is illustrated in Geoffrey Beard and Judith Goodison, English Furniture 1500-1840, 1987, p.254, fig. 3. Another closely-related set, also associated with Gillows, is recorded at Leighton Hall, Lancashire, illustrated in Ralph Edwards and Margaret Jourdain, Georgian Cabinet-makers, rev. ed. 1955, fig. 193.
