  • 105cm. high, 67cm. wide, 36cm. deep; 3ft. 5¼in., 2ft. 2½in., 1ft. 2¼in.
with two graduated shelves above a pair of cupboard doors flanked by reeded stiles, on turned legs and castors

Condition

Generally these are in good condition. They have a good colour and patina. One lock will need attention. Some old scratches consistent with age and use. Elegant and ready to place.

Catalogue Note

The present pair of bookcases relates closely to a double sided bookcase illustrated in Susan E. Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster 1730-1840, 2008, 2 vols., Vol. I, pl.432, `ordered by John Gladstone Esq., of Liverpool in August 1813 from Gillows of Lancaster'  suggesting that the present cabinets are also by this firm. The reeded front supports are of a design associated with the output of the firm and the quality of construction and carefully selected figured timbers also strongly link that the present cabinets to the firm.
