Description

comprising a pair of bergères, four fauteuils and a canapé, the canapé painted cream, with contemporary Aubusson tapestry upholstery, 18th century, woven with profusions of flowering groups and swags within palm frond ribbon bound wreaths, on a cream ground; reblocked; some refreshment to decoration, all stamped D.O Roussel and the sofa in addition NPRN

Condition

In overall good conserved condition. The painted frames are slightly dirty and would benefit from a light clean especially on the arms where the painted decoration it is also worn on some armchairs . Some hairline construction cracks at the joints commensurate with age and normal usage. Joints sound and sturdy. Tapestry covers: on sofa, there is some discolouration to the creamy/very pale yellow ground, commensurate with colour and age. Slightly stronger colours on the edges, as protected from the light. Some minor splits and some loose threads and repairs on the arms. Armchairs, with some discolouration to ground of all. Cushion seat of one with repaired sections to lower edge above the bow. Bergeres only upholstered with tapestry on the inside of the arms. Other material on outside. Otherwise overall good and stable condition. Overall tapestry stable and usable and very decorative.
