Description

  • beech/walnut, upholstery
in the manner of Georges Jacob, each with a rectangular padded back above padded arms terminating in block ends surmounted by a patera on flaring baluster supports above a bowed padded seat on turned tapering front legs and rear sabre legs, the upholstery woven with pastoral scenes with figures of children on the chair backs and animals on the chair seats within draped and flowering surrounds, from the series Tenture des Pastorales, after Jean-Baptiste Huet; decoration refreshed

Condition

The ball feet at the front have been ebonized. The decoration distressed in places. Joints sound and sturdy. Front left leg of one badly wormed but this appears to be no longer active. Construction cracks at joints commensurate with age and usage. Part of the front left foot of one is off but present and can easily be restored and on same armchair the front baluster support has a large crack at the back which can easily be filled or left. In need of some minor attention. Tapestry covers: Vary in condition. There are hand repairs to the arms of all, commensurate with usage. Tapestry covers with some repairs, due to lightness of colours used and fineness of the weave. For example to the sky in particular to some and to the light highlights. Charming subjects. Tapestry in good overall condition and usable.
