Description

  • Walnut marquetry, brass, silver, steel
  • 194cm. 6ft. 4½in. high
10-inch latched dial with finely chased winged cherub spandrels, silver chapter ring, finely matted centre with date aperture and well pierced hands, signed along the lower edge Joseph Knibb Londini Fecit, the movement with five knopped ring-turned latched pillars, five wheel trains with anchor escapement, bell striking with small outside count wheel, thumb-piece regulation nut, the backplate cut for the anchor, the associated and extensively restored case with flat top and moulded cornice above a frieze fret, ebonised spiral hood pilasters, the trunk door with shaped panels of bird and flower marquetry inset with an oval lenticle, the plinth similarly decorated, the sides crossbanded and divided into panels

Condition

PROSPECTIVE BUYERS SHOULD INSPECT PERSONALLY. Movement and dial are much in need of a clean, good original wheel trains throughout, pallet back cock bent, crutch and pallets detached, traces of rust to the steelwork. Associated case is extensively rebuilt and restored. WIth incorrect pendulum, 2 brass-cased weights, winder and a case key.
