A rare third period brass lantern clock attributed to Ahasuerus Fromanteel, London, circa 1660

6¼-inch dial with lightly matted centre and corners, signed with initials A F to the lower corners, the movement with verge and balance escapement, locking plate striking on the top-mounted bell, the posted frame with distinctive ringed finials, tapered pillars and ball feet, iron hoop and spurs to the rear

In un-restored condition - prospective buyers should inspect personally. Very dirty throughout, iron hand probably replaced, matting to dial rather worn. Movement is very worn particualrly to the winding ratchets, escapement worn. Case very dirty, top and rear left finials repaired, side doors lacking, iron spurs replaced.

A very similar clock is illustrated and described in White, George. English Lantern Clocks. 1989, p. 175. That clock also has a matted centre and is attributed to Ahasuerus Fromanteel being signed in the same position with the same initials.  These two clocks would appear to straddle the changeover from balance to pendulum.
