représentés de manière réaliste, assis sur leur train arrière, la queue ramenée le long du flanc, les pattes avant raides, portant un grelot autour du cou, leurs petites oreilles coupées, la gueule aplatie entrouverte laissant voir le bout de leur langue rose (2)
Condition
The dog on the left in the catalogue illustration is in overall good condition with the exception of his right ear which shows some restoration to one side. There is some wear to the gilding to the two bells around his neck and some minor overall wear to the painting of the fur. The dog on the right in the catalogue illustration is also in overall good condition. There is a large matte area running from the neck down its chest and belly and with two possibly misfired patches to the each side. There is minor wear to the painting of the fur and to the glaze and some minor fritting to the raised areas of the figure.

Catalogue Note
The present pair of dogs is based on Meissen models of the early 1740s made by Joachim Kaendler. A pair of similar pugs are illustrated in David S. Howard, The Choice of the Private Trader, Minneapolis, 1994, pl. 330, and another pug dog from the Essayan Collection, Lisbonne, illustrated in Michel Beurdeley, Porcelaine de la Compagnie des Indes, Fribourg, 1982, fig. 81.
