Catalogue Note
La facture de cette effigie d'ancêtre l'apparente très étroitement à celle conservée au musée Dapper (Falgayrettes-Leveau, 2004, p. 160), chef-d’œuvre du "style de Kolo", identifié en 1989 par Raoul Lehuard dans Art Bakongo, les centres de style. Dans cette "miniature" - du même atelier et probablement de la même main - l'artiste est parvenu à imposer la monumentalité de son sujet, notamment dans la prestance de la pose, la tension de la courbe pectorale et la dynamique du visage aux traits anguleux.
