Good condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture. The proper left nostril is missing as visible in the catalogue illustration. Exceptionally fine nuanced multi-layered encrusted patina.

Catalogue Note
Relevant d'un langage plastique analogue à celui de la statuaire, les amulettes protectrices en forme de tête sont extrêmement rares. Les deux autres témoins répertoriés relèvent également de l'aire d'influence Luba. Le premier fut collecté en pays Tabwa en 1883 (Museum für Völkerkunde, Berlin, inv. n° III E 1444, cf. Maurer et Roberts, 1986, n°54) ; le second représente un masque miniature Luba/Songye (collection Laura et James J. Ross, cf. Petridis, 2008, p. 11).
