Good condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture. Several open cracks on the proper left side of the figure. Fine brown patina.

En 1995, l'exposition Africa, The Art of a Continent (Royal Academy of Arts, Londres), accordait pour la première fois une place égale aux arts des différentes régions du continent, mettant à l'honneur la statuaire longtemps méconnue de l'Afrique de l'Est, notamment de Tanzanie. Au schéma cylindrique caractéristique répond ici l'extrême délicatesse des modelés et des traits, accentuant l'élan longiligne de la silhouette et son émouvante poésie. Voir Jahn (1994, p. 146, n° 61) pour une très rare œuvre de conception analogue, dédiée au culte des ancêtres.
