Condition
This work is much more luminous than it appears in the catalogue illustration. The gradation of the sky is more nuanced and the whites are crisper.
Executed on thick cream wove paper not laid down. The sheet is fixed to the over-mount at the four corners and at the centre of the left and right edges. There is some faint old frame abrasion towards the lower and upper right corners. A close inspection reveals some minor shrinkage in the black pigment towards the lower edge, notably surrounding the tallest element in the lower left corner. There is a tiny spot of paint-loss along the upper left edge and a two small spots of discoloration along the upper right edge. There is a faint pencil line towards the centre of the composition (as visible in the catalogue illustration). Apart from some light time staining and some scattered faint spots of foxing in the background this work is in very good original condition.
