This imaginary portrait of the great Central Asian warlord Timur, ancestor of the Mughal emperors, is executed with considerable detail and skill, evident particularly in the veins on the hands of the figure. The seal impression at the left edge of the painting is the same as one on an important portrait of Sultan Ibrahim Adil Shah offered in these rooms 24 April 2013, lot 79.
