Description

  • Two Persian Blue-and-White Pottery Kalians, Safavid, probably Meshed
  • Glazed ceramic
  • Heights 7 3/4 and 7 1/4 in. 19.7 and 18.4 cm.
each with low foot-ring, domed spout and slender neck with flaring mouth (one mouth restored), one painted with five panels containing exotic creatures in Chinese landscapes, a pseudo-Chinese mark underneath, the other with two sea monsters swimming to right, dated A.H. 1050.

Provenance

Acquired in London in the late 1970s/early 1980s

Condition

The first very good, note chipped spout and small chip on top of mouth visible in photo; tiny chip to glaze on edge of mouth; slight staining. The second has a mouth restored in plaster from the narrowest part of the neck up. This restoration is chipped on the edge of one side. Very shallow chip to the end of the spout, other minor imperfections to the glaze, chips on the foot-ring.
