his youthful face with inlaid glass(?) eyes with lapis-blue glass rims, his curly hair painted black, the shroud in back decorated with quatrefoils.

Provenance

acquired by the present owner in New York in the late 1960's

Condition

Generally good but the object is fragile and there is some flaking along the edges. There is a large area of regilding on the proper left cheek and the gilding may be slightly retouched in some other areas. The inner corner of the proper left inset glass eye is visible embedded in the plaster on the interior. The back edge of the shroud is reinforced with what appears to be wood putty on the inside.
