Description

  • An Egyptian Polychrome Wood Mummy Mask

  • Height 9 1/2 in. 24.1 cm.
the oval face with finely outlined lips rounded at the corners, straight nose, and large slightly recessed almond-shaped eyes, the upper rims and long eyebrows and cosmetic lines carved in shallow relief, the central part of the striped tripartite wig remaining; traces of gilding(?) on the face, remains of black and white pigment, and traces of blue on the eyebrows and cosmetic lines.

Condition

Generally very good, and as shown and described in the catalogue. Note vertical check in the wood at the center of the wig. Minor flaws in the wood, minor chips and abrasions especially on the edges, end of nose rubbed, proper left side of wig and edge of area just below it fragmentary.

There are remains of old French paper labels on the back of the mask, one inscribed with the number 1128.
