Catalogue Note
Mabel Hunt Slater (1864-1942) was the daughter of William Morris Hunt. A leading figure in Boston and New York social circles, Mrs. Slater was a philanthropist and an inventor. Sargent drew charcoal portraits of both Mrs. Slater and her husband Horatio Nelson Slater, Jr. in 1917.
