Catalogue Note

This type of finely porcelain-mounted mantle clock of architectural or portico-shaped case was very fashionable under the reign of King Louis XVI.

The present model has an oval porcelain plaque painted with the effigy of Queen Marie-Antoinette, spouse of King Louis XVI.

A Louis XVI finely painted porcelain-mounted clock surmounted by an oval porcelain medallion above the dial is now in the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and was formerly in the Pawlowski Palace in St. Petersburg.
