Condition

Sound board. There are a few faint surface scratches along the upper edge; near the centre of the lower edge, left of the vertical stripe and in the extreme lower right corner. There are one or two larger diagonal surface abrasions in the upper right quadrant of the board. These are only visible upon close inspection. There is some flattening to some of the raised elements of thicker impasto. The paint surface itself appears stable with rich brushwork and passages of impasto. This excepting the work appears in very good overall condition. Housed in a simple wooden box frame. Catalogue Note

'While I was crossing the Campo Manin, I saw, in the window of the Galleria Sandri, an exciting painting by a young Scotsman named Alan Davie. I could hardly believe my eyes. It seemed to me so out of place in old Venice.'
