Catalogue Note
The firm of Posen was founded by Lazarus Jacob Posen in 1869 and had shops in Frankfurt and Berlin. The firm produced much historicist plate often in Renaissance style, mostly using industrialised techniques. Exceptions include such hand raised and chased items as in this lot and enameled and stone-set items such as the Torah Shield (see the following lot). According to Mrs. Frank, daughter of the last member of the firm, her grandfather gave Ludwig Wolpert the scholarship which enabled him to be a silversmith. The firm closed before World War II.
