Provenance

Almost certainly originally part of a suite of seat furniture, which included at least seven other arm chairs commissioned by Francis and Elizabeth Palmer of Castle Lacken, Ballycastle, Co. Mayo or his nephew Sir Roger Palmer, 1stBt of Castle Lacken, Ballycastle, Co.Mayo and later Kenure Park, Co. Dublin, Ireland;

Three chairs from the suite passed by descent at Kenure Park to Roderick George Fenwick-Palmer, C. B. E. (d.1968), and were consequently sold by the Trustees of the Palmer Estate at Kenure Park by James H. North, Dublin, 21-24 September 1964. The present lot, possibly lot 357 of this sale

Condition

This impressive armchairs is in overall very good condition, minor losses to gilding, corner reinforcements to inside of front rails, minor chips to gilding, repaired breaks to foliated elements to joint of arm and back, now upholstered in modern yellow silk.
