Catalogue Note

Christopher Gould as made a Free Brother of the Clockmakers' Company in 1682. He was Beadle of the Company in 1713 but by then was receiving a charity pension which continued until his death in 1718. A prolific maker, a number of small longcase clocks have been recorded.  Another small walnut longcase clock for the Italian market was sold in these rooms 16th October 1986, Lot 168.  It is thought that these clocks were for bedroom use hence their small scale and pull repeat striking.
