  • hand-wrought copper and mica

Provenance

Condition

Overall in good condition. The four panels in the shade all retain their original mica. Each mica panel with evidence of lifting and associated minor surface losses, which is common and inherent in the natural aging process of the mica. One panel with slightly heavier wear and lifting to the mica, with a few old stable fractures to the mica throughout the panel (all of which appear to have been stabilized in the past). The copper domed top of the shade with a minute hole which extends through the surface of the copper (only visible under close inspection). One of the small copper tabs which secures the mica on the interior of the shade is missing (each panel has 10 evenly dispersed tabs around the perimeter border). The hand-hammered base retains its original patina and displays a superb, rich russet brown coloration with strong red undertones. The copper surfaces throughout with some occasional surface scratches, abrasions and rubbing, and with some surface soiling, minor discolorations and a few small traces of surface oxidation, consistent with age and gentle use. The four sockets and pull chains all appear to be original and undisturbed. An attractive example displaying elegant proportions, strong form, and an exceptionally deep and rich original patina. When illuminated, the lamp remits a warm carmel-colored glow from within.
