Condition

Overall in good original condition. The screen presents in person with a more saturated color palette in comparison to the catalogue illustration. The second panel on the proper left with a yellows color palette to the distant landscape which appears inherent in the design. Each panel with minor discoloration, surface scratches, edge nicks and losses consistent with the use. These minor losses are concentrated to the side panels, the lower edges and adjacent to the hinges as expected with use. The largest loss, measuring one inch in length, to the landscape motif side of the second panel from the proper right, adjacent to the hinge. This loss to the sky portion of the design and does not impact the overall decorative motif. The adjacent panel with a similar loss which measured ΒΌ inch in diameter about three inches into the panel adjacent to the middle hinge. The proper right panel with a minor vertical intermittent abrasion to the top register, which is visible in the catalogue illustration and extends approximately 5 inches, which reveal the white underlayer. The bird motif side presents with less edge wear. This screen is lacking castors that would have been included in the original design. This screen was likely stored, as 12 halves of the hinges are presently lacking and the complementing hinge pins. Some of the pins presently with the screen are likely later. When the current hinges and pins are placed, the screen is loose and not stable. The screen would benefit from restoration to hinges and pins to permanently display the work. The remaining hardware shows evidence of light surface scratches, discoloration, and oxidation, consistent with age and use. The screen with a wonderfully detailed decorative motif to both sides, which is far more saturated in color when viewed in person than in the catalogue illustration.
