Description
- Delphin Massier
- Pair of Jardinières on Stands
- each signed in the glaze Delphin-Massier & Co. Vallauris A.M.
- glazed earthenware
Condition
Overall in very good condition. The interior of the jardinières with surface dirt from use. The top surface of the stands with shallow surface scratches which are not visible once the jardinières are property placed on the pedestals. The top pedestals are slightly larger than the jardinières, which is visible in the catalogue illustration and these may be a later pairing. The outer edges of the top rim of the stands with evidence of restoration and associated over-painting. The restoration is likely to cover some edge chips, but it is impossible because of the over spraying to tell the extent of condition issues to the rim. The over spraying extends about 1.5 inches down the standard and presently shows minor discoloration from age, and chips and losses. The restored areas currently show slightly more yellow in tone than the rest of the stand. An attractive example of this highly sculptural form. With a few minor edge chips and some rubbing to the finish. Please note both the stands and jardineres with a drilled hole at the base, which appears original.
