one side decorated with scenes of the Buddhist paradise framed with gilt lacquered pierced panels depicting immortals and twelve of the twenty-four paragons of filialpiety, the other side with everyday scenes on Earth, and inscribed in Chinese "Kangxi jiazi year on an auspicious spring day during the third month, presented to Xinghua prefecture, stored in the Wusheng Temple, respectfully offered by officials Wang Wenzhi, Li Youshan, he daming, Cheng Fucheng and Hong Peiji"
Condition
Lacquer with age cracks, chips to surface, and some areas of lifting throughout all panels; discoloration to lacquer surface; ebonized wood supports with chips, scratches, and wear, especially to edges; incised decoration also with scratches and chips throughout so that areas of paint are missing; one of the carved aprons is detached but present as is half of another panel's pierced apron; the gilded pierced panels have chips to the carved wood and losses to the gilding throughout; the bottom, larger panels with more extensive surface dirt, losses to gilding, and overall wear; two of the hinges are missing and one hinge is detached on one side.
