Catalogue Note
Linke title: Bahut Louis XV genre vitrine No.208 bois de violette satiné et marqueterie.
This appears to be one of only three of this model made, the first started by Koener on August 31st, 1897. The total cost of production was 1,356 francs, Linke initially asking 1,900 francs retail. The only two other examples made to this size were both made for the King of Egypt, one in 1923 when the production costs had risen to 4,485 francs and the last in 1931 at 6,833 francs. A fourth, taller version was made to special commission in 1929. Linke's title refers to a vitrine index number 208 which was offered in three sizes, none however conforming to the size of the present lot, although the cabinetmaking plans are primarily the same. Both sets of plans are held in the Linke Archives.
