  • dark brown patinated bronze on a rouge griotte marble base, on a carved green marble pedestal
  • height 27 3/4 in.

Condition

Marble base with chips to one corner with detached piece present. Further minor chips and abrasions and fine crack. Patinated bronze with rubbing at extremitites including, but not limited to, top of bow of Cupid, upper edge of drapery, Cupid's chest and hair. In these areas patina is worn the most heavily. Scattered surface scratches and surface dirt to cravices. Cupid's arrow bent.

Just as William-Adolphe Bouguereau often drew inspiration from sculpture compositions for his paintings, sculptors were so too inspired by his work. L'amour Vaiqueur was painted in 1886, sold Christie's, New York, May 25, 1984, lot 79, and is now kept in a private collection
