Condition

Overall in good condition with the usual minor scratches, dents and nicks to veneers and carcass consistent with age and use. Tarnishing to gilt-bronze in places. The marble with the usual minor chips to edges, scratches to surface consistent with age and use. The stretcher will need to be reattached.

Catalogue Note

This early work from Linke is shown in a naive pencil drawing in Daybook 2, page 54 as index number 57. A similar version is shown in the metalwork books as number 56 (see C. Payne, Linke, p. 474), but this is apparently intended to have three legs. Of the seven recorded, five are recorded in the early books, the last in November 1896. One simplified version was made in May 1904, one more finished in 1925.
