Catalogue Note

As suggested by the present work’s inscription, Mossa takes inspiration from Lord Byron’s Romantic poem Manfred (1816-17), likely Act I, Scene II in which the eponymous character, a wealthy aristocrat, prepares to toss himself from Jungfrau, one of the main summits of the Bernese Alps, the profundity of his experience in nature personified here as a stoic, haunting beauty.
