Catalogue Note
Rare views of Adrianople. "Michailides was an Ottoman Greek who earned a justifiable reputation for the work at his Edirne studio ... He may have learned photography from Vassilaki Kargopoulo of Edirne, whose negatives he acquired, so the possibility exists that many of the Edirne photographs may have been taken by Kargopoulo. An extensive collection of photographs that Michailides donated to the Adrianopolis Greek Association was lost in the great Edirne fire of 1905."
