Catalogue Note

The slides and negatives show scenes in and around the Persian Gulf, including Bahrain, Aden, Muscat, Basrah, Baghdad, Bushehr, Bassadu (?), Bandar Abbas, Dahrein and elsewhere. The subjects include ports, harbours, groups and portraits, buildings, tombs, houses, castles, ruins, pearl boats, dhows and other vessels, wells, processions, festivals, street scenes, pilgrims, fishermen, a carpenter, a coffee shop, Persian rug dealers, farmers, dancing girls and pearl dealers.

Lieutenant A.G. Lawrence was an Assistant Surgeon in the Royal Indian Marine and spent time on board the following ships: RIMS Dalhousie, RIMS Investigator and RIMS Sphinx, and others; two of his companion officers were Lieutenants Alfred Stevenson Balfour and Thomas Charles Reynolds (see also lot 115).
