Low's History of the Indian Navy includes considerable information regarding operations in the Persian Gulf and Red Sea, including a chapter (no.X, vol.1) on the Joasmi pirates (see lot 305 for Temple's pictorial record of the expedition against them, Sixteen Views of Places in the Persian Gulph), and the Persian War 1856-57 (no.VII, vol.2). Her Majesty's Navy also records expeditions against the pirates of the Persian Gulf in 1809 and 1819 (ch.VIII, vol.3).
