Catalogue Note

Rare photographs of Constantinople by Iranyan, an Armenian Ottoman photographer, whose earliest known studio in Constantinople was located in Pera in 1891. In 1895 Iranyan started a photographic partnership with another Armenian named Gugasyan, which lasted a few years. Not many of his photographs have survived, but those that do, show that he “appears to have done some very good work from the standpoint of its aesthetic values.” (B. Öztuncay. The Photographers of Constantinople, 2003, vol.1, p.315)
