- each shade engraved L.C.T.
- leaded glass, favrile glass and copper-plated bronze
Provenance
Private Collection, Garrison, NY
Condition
Turtleback Tile Lantern
Overall in very good condition. The central leaded glass shade with approximately 4 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout. All of the large Turtle-Back tiles in the upper register of the shade appear original and indisturbed, with no visible cracks or condition issues. The bottom of the lantern is also set with a small circular Turtle-Back tile. These tiles are beautifully iridized, and when seen with reflected light display strong luminous jewel-tone hues. The six favrile glass tulip shades are a beautiful matched set and in excellent condition. Two of the shades with very small edge flecks to the top aperture rims which are exceedingly minor and not at all visible when the shades are installed. The copper-plated bronze surfaces throughout with light surface wear, surface abrasions, rubbing, and some minor plating losses consistent with age and use. All of the hardware displays a consistent patina and appears original to the lantern, including the link chains, ceiling cap and interior sockets. The ceiling plate with some scattered surface abrasions and minor surface indentations to the top perimeter edges. With surface soiling to the recessed contours of the chains, and light surface soling to the interior of the lantern. The lantern has recently been professionally re-wired with appropriate brown-fabric covered cords. The lantern presents beautifully in person, with impressive scale and presence. When illuminated the various glass elements emit a rich warm glow, and the glass selection in the leaded glass lantern displays a beautiful color transition.
