Condition
Overall in very good condition. The shade with approximately 20-22 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout, which is a relatively low number in proportion to the vast number of individual glass tiles which were required to execute this complex pattern. The top reticulated bronze armature of the shade is finely cast displaying crisp detailing to the branching. The top armature and shade leading display a particularly rich green and russet brown patina, and the shade leading is beautifully rendered with thin fine lines. With some gentle rubbing to the high points of the top reticulated shade armature. The small “Tree” base is also very finely cast, displaying crisp details and an exceptionally rich and satisfying russet brown and green patina. The patinated bronze surfaces show very minimal surface wear and gentle rubbing to the high points of the design, and with some light surface soiling to the recessed contours. The base appears to retain its original decorative bronze switch, and the three sockets all appear to be original and undisturbed. The underside of the base with three small old felt glides. A beautiful example of this rare and charming lamp design, displaying a highly unusual glass selection for the Begonia model. This is one of the few known examples of the model to depict yellow Begonia blossoms, which are strikingly positioned against a violet ground with streaks of cobalt. The green leaves are vigorously mottled with orange accents, imparting the lamp with added visual interest and depth.

Catalogue Note
The present lot is unusual in that it is one of the few examples presently known depicting a yellow Begonia flower. This rare model was in production for only a brief period during the early years of the firm’s lamp production. It was listed in the firm's 1906 Price List, but did not appear in the subsequent published Price List of 1910. Unlike the related Wisteria model, the Begonia was produced in only the smaller “Pony” scale, which is fitting given the diminutive size of the natural flower.
