Provenance

Presented as a wedding gift to Harriet Root Ayer and Frank Ashton Ayer, Pelham Manor, NY, circa 1920
By descent to Harriet W. Ayer and Frank Root Ayer, Mystic, CT, circa 1970s
Thence by descent to the present owners, circa 2010

Condition

Overall in very good condition. The favrile glass with a few very small and minor air bubble inclusions and open air bubbles inherent in the making. The exterior surfaces with some light surface scratches and gentle rubbing marks. The interior of the vase with dark surface soiling and discoloration, and with some surface scratches, consistent with age and use. The scale of the vase is quite large and substantial. The freeform decoration is highly expressionistic and bold. The exterior is beautifully iridized, imparting the surfaces with strong luminous color. A very attractive example with strong visual presence.
