Catalogue Note
Paule Cals, better known as Paule Rizzo was one of Coco Chanel's favourite models, at the forefront of Parisian society and briefly engaged to Gunter Sachs. Paule introduced Sachs to Gérard Mille who was to furnish Sachs' apartment at No.32 Avenue du Bois in Paris which was soon to become the place to be for the young Avant-Garde Nouveaux Réalistes and Surrealists as well as actors, philosophers, politicians and other colourful characters in Paris at the time. Paule would select only the works that she felt would appeal to Gunter Sachs and in this way he amassed a generous collection of her exquisite paintings and sculptures.
