Catalogue Note
Burchard Precht (1651-1738) was a sculptor and cabinet-maker from Bremen and was educated in Hamburg by his brother Christian Precht (1999-1774). He then went to Stockholm in 1674, to work at Drottningholm Palace where he created a Royal bedchamber. In 1681, he was recommended for the position of royal cabinet-maker and sculptor by the Royal architect N. Tessin, the Younger. He was very influential in his time and was instrumental in disseminating the Swedish baroque style, also called Precht style, which had absorbed French and Italian influences.
