- Vertue items some with Ivory and Tortoiseshell
comprising a moss agate snuff box with silver-gilt mounts, German, circa 1770, 8cm, 3 1/8 in; four tortoiseshell boxes, two with piqué ornament, one inset with a miniature on porcelain, 4.2-7.2cm, 1 5/8-2 7/8 in; and a circular ivory motto box, French, circa 1785, 5cm, 2in
Condition
First hardstone cut-cornered rectangular: minor cracks on right hand front corner of base, small chip on lid back right corner;
second tortoiseshell circular: with portion of interior rim lacking and crack; second tortoiseshell oval: with some piqué loss on sides and good restoration to tortoiseshell in several places; third circular tortoiseshell with gold lid mount, chips on sides; fourth circular tortoiseshell with miniature which is detached and cracked across, box itself has water damage and cracks; circular ivory box with outer corded border split and detached, lid rim cracked, tortoiseshell-lined, lid interior with patch of red sealing wax
