Catalogue Note

This model is adapated from Joullain's engraving "Habit de Mezzetin". The figure of Mezzetin is recorded in Reinicke's work notes in August 1744 "1 detto Mezzetin, v. gleicher Grösse, in Thon Bossirt" (1 ditto Mezzetin, of the same size, modelled in clay).

Mezzetin means 'half measure' and in accordance with this variable character he could be a deceived or a deceiving husband, and could serve his master with devotion or take bribes and betray him.
