Catalogue Note

A design for one of the "twelve illustrative prints" included in an edition of Laurence Sterne's A Sentimental Journey through France and Italy, published for William Holland. Although the title-page of the edition is dated 1795 the plates are dated 1797.The plate appears opposite page 144 in the published edition.
