Condition

The painting is in a simple frame. A fold and a strecher's mark are visible under naked eye and on the photography, on the lower edge. The canvas is slightly loose and the painting is dirty. Several small losses ans cracks are visible in the faggot. No repaint visible under UV light. The painting is in good overall condition.

Catalogue Note

Vlastimil Hofmann étudia tout d'abord à Cracovie dans l 'atelier de Jacek Malczewski, avant de venir en 1899 étudier à Paris dans celui de Jean-Léon Gérôme. L'artiste a surout vécu en Pologne mais, entre 1914 et 1920, il partage son temps entre Paris et Prague. Membre associé du Salon de la Société nationale des Beaux-Arts, il y expose régulièrement.
