In real, the colours of the painting are slighly less contrasted than the catalogue photography shows. TO THE NAKED EYES The painting condition is very good. it is recovered by a thick old varnish, quite dirty and yellow and needs to be slightly cleaned. We can notice a very beautiful medium with small thin circular cracks, very usual for the period. The cracks do not affect the visibility of the work. The painting has been relined about 20 to 30 years ago, very well made and has not compressed the medium. The painting has kept all his glazes. TO THE UV LAMP The painting appears under a thick varnish, uniform. we notice a few traces of an old green varnish. No trace of restoration visible. The painting is in a regilt carved frame, very probably french 18th century.

Notre tableau fait exception dans l'œuvre de Christian Georg Schuz, essentiellement composée de paysages de la campagne allemande des bords du Main. En effet, il s'agit là d'une vue de ville, ce qui fait de notre œuvre un élément rare dans la production du peintre allemand. L'environnement citadin représenté est double : Franckfort est représentée sur la droite tandis que Sachsenhausen est visible sur la gauche. Les deux bourgs sont reliés par le grand pont du premier plan, l'Alte Brücke. La ville de Hochst, spécialisée en porcelaines, est située au loin sur la ligne d'horizon. Détail intéressant : la petite église dont on perçoit le clocher sur la gauche existe toujours.
De petits personnages animent le paysage, pêchant et discutant, profitant de la vie des rives bordées de petits abris en bois, les activités des habitants sont décrites à travers des personnages transportant leurs marchandises sur des bateaux ou traversant le pont transformant une vue topographique figée en un paysage urbain plein de vie.
Par la vaste composition panoramique, Christian Georg Schüz nous propose un véritable "portrait" de ville très en marge de son style habituel. Il se montre très influencé par les oeuvres des vedutistes italiens et notamment par Bernardo Belotto, actif en Allemagne à la fin des années 1740 - début des années 1750.
