Condition

Under naked eye: the painting appears in good overall condition and on its original canvas ; no repaint visible. The painting is less yellow and more vivid than the photo in the catalogue. A strip of canvas (2cm) was added by the artist in the lower part and the stretcher was enlarged (2cm) by the artist on the same area. The signature appears on the added part. Under UV light: a few tiny repaints are visible on the roof and in the house. The painting is in good overall condition

Catalogue Note

D'après une tradition familiale, ce tableau aurait été donné par Corot vers 1850 à Madame Trousson ou Tronçon, propriétaire d'une maison que l'artiste occupa.

La guinguette, rare dans Paris intra-muros fleurit au XIXe siècle dans les villages autour de Paris et rencontre un large succès jusqu'en 1870. Séduits pas son côté champêtre, les gens du peuple vont y boire, manger et aussi danser les jours de fête. Le thème de la guinguette est plutôt rare chez Corot. Un tableau de sujet similiaire Paysans attablés à la porte d'un cabaret,  est répertorié dans le Robaut, 1905, tome II, n°1418.
