Condition

The photography in the catalogue is brighter than the drawing itself. A few moldings, visible on the photoghraphy, appear on the upper part of the work. Very minor foxings are visible around the left eye. No tear are visible under naked eye. The work appears is a good condition.

Catalogue Note

Madame Chesneau était l'épouse d'Ernest-Alfred Chesneau (1833 - 1890) historien d'art et critique d'art qui écrivit le premier grand ouvrage de référence sur Carpeaux en  1880. Un portrait de leur fils Emilien est conservé au Musée d'Orsay (Cf. catalogue de l'exposition Carpeaux peintre, Valenciennes, 8 octobre 1999 - 3 janvier  2000, p. 237)
