Description

- A Rare "Openwork Arch" Table Lamp Base
- impressed TIFFANY STUDIOS/NEW YORK/549
- patinated bronze
Provenance
Fontaine's Auction Gallery, Pittsfield, MA, January 27, 2001, lot 46
Condition
Overall in very good condition. The patinated bronze surfaces display a deep russet brown and dark green patina. The bronze surfaces throughout with light surface scratches, surface abrasions with occasional scattered losses to the patina, and rubbing to the patina consistent with age and use. With surface soiling to the recessed contours of the reticulated design, top surface of the base plate and socket cluster. The riser, wheel and socket cluster all appear to be original to the base and display an equally rich corresponding patina. All six sockets appear to be original and undisturbed, and retain their original interior cardboard insulator liners. Four of the paddle switches appear to be original and undisturbed, and two are old replacements. The diameter of the outermost top edge of the wheel is 4 7/8 inches, and the diameter of the bottom lip of the wheel (which the top aperture ring of a lamp shade would be supported on) is 5 3/8 inches. A beautiful example of this rare and highly desirable base model.
