Condition

Overall in very good condition. The shade with approximately 8 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout. The underside of the top shade aperture partially covered with pieces of old tape. The patinated bronze surfaces of the base with some occasional surface scratches, abrasions and gentle rubbing consistent with age and use. The upper base shoulder with two small and shallow surface bruises with associated patina loss. All of the inset “Turtle-Back” glass tiles in the base appear to be original and undisturbed, with no visible cracks. Two of the Turtle-Back glass tiles with very small and minor surface flecks at the bottom perimeter edges (both 1/8 inch). These tiles are beautifully iridized on the exterior and when viewed with reflected light display a strong range of luminous color. When viewed with remitted light from the electrified base these tiles emit a beautiful deep green glow. All of the components to the removable socket cluster appear to the original and undisturbed, including the riser, wheel, sockets and paddle switches, as well as the interior socket and its pull chain which illuminates the base. The period finial with one very shallow and minor surface indentation. The proportions and color palette of the shade and base are very complementary, and the unit represents a highly desirable shade and base pairing. Please note the following marks, several of which are not included in the printed catalogue description: The interior of the urn-form base with two applied tags (one on the upper shoulder component, one on the lower urn-form component) both impressed 22. The interior rim of the base impressed 22, and the lower interior urn-form component of the base numbered with white chalk 22. The interior of the removable socket cluster unit with applied tag impressed 22. All of these components are similarly numbered, reinforcing that they all originated together. The underside of the base is also impressed with the firm’s circular monogram.
